TL;DR: Record with Tango, copy the content to clipboard & run the script in johschmidt42/tango-process-markdown

While looking for ways to speed up the documentation process as a programmer, I came across Chrome extensions that promise to create how-to guides in the browser in seconds with screenshots and automatic descriptions. The most popular representative of this family of tools is Scribe (formerly ScribeHow). Similar tools are: Minerva, Dubble or Tango

The workflow is always the same:

  • Install the extension in Chrome
  • Record your steps in the browser
  • Generate and edit the how-to guide
  • Export to a format of your choice

This all is very simple and inviting… until we want to export the how-to guide to the Markdown format so that we can use it for documentation! This is a very common use case for many programmers. For example, mkdocs requires markdown files to generate documentation. Scribe & others offer this on the PRO subscription only! This can be very costly.
